January 18, 2007Work weary

Every day I think, this is going to be the day I blog again. And every day I go to bed realizing I never blogged. Not that I have anything exciting or new to share.

To pick up where I left off the last time, we finally did get the TV. Jeff and Brian got it installed and it's fantastic! I was a little skeptical at first because it's higher up than I was used to, but it's not bad. The room is finally starting to come together. Now, if I could just figure out what kind of curtains to put up.

Christmas was a little different for me this year as it was the first year I didn't get to see my family at all. Jeff & I spent the weekened before Christmas in Bridgewater then came back to Richmond. Even though I wasn't as productive during my holiday break as I could have been I enjoyed my much needed time off.

As our third week back to work comes to a close I find myself thinking more and more about looking for a new job. Maybe I've just having a bad week or maybe I'm just worn out, whatever the case may be, I haven't looked forward to coming to work. If anyone comes across a job opening that looks interesting, let me know.

January 29, 2007Workaholics Anonymous Please

As Jeff can attest to, when I left Radford and started looking for a job in the real world, I always said I wanted a job I would just go to during the day. I would do my work and come home, leaving plenty of free time for hobbies and a personal life. I never wanted a job I had to bring home, mentally or physically or completely envelop my life.

Yet, here I sit, at 7:45pm, still at work. Jeff had a freelance client meeting tonight, so instead of leaving work on time to go home and finally work on that scrapbook I've been neglecting, I chose to stay here and work.

And I've come to the conclusion that it's not just this job, and trying to keep up with it, I'm just a workaholic. Especially if I can get paid overtime, I'm gonna stay and work. Nevermind that the house is filty (not really, it got a good scrubbing this weekend) or the cat is waiting for his dinner (true), I have work to do!

Now if you will excuse me, I have to pack my bag with work I'm taking home, so I can go feed that hungry kitty.

January 31, 2007Seeing stripes

Despite my last rant about being a workaholic, I took some time out this weekend to do some work around the house. After an extensive cleaning I decided to tackle painting the upstairs hall bath. I'd purchased the glaze and supplies before Christmas, but had been procrastinating. I knew I wanted to do that bathroom in orange, but after the orange dining room wall in the townhouse, I wanted something a little different. The faux finish display in Lowes was very inviting, and the stripes, or dragging, technique seemed like a pretty good idea.

The result isn't quite as clean and modern as I'd pictured, but it was a fun experience. We both definitely like the color, but aren't sure about the finish. When I pictured the finished room in my head, the shower curtain matched perfectly, but now I'm not so sure. Opinions?
