June 7, 2006All moved in (mostly)

Whew. Has it really been almost 2 weeks since we closed? It's amazing how much more work is involved in moving when you're selling a house, not just moving out. As per the inspection report and subsequent addendum to the contract on the townhouse, we have several things to fix before closing. With the clock ticking we're finally getting around to knocking some of those things out:

Seal skylights - doing tonight
Level & fix ac - scheduled
Repair drywall cracks/caulk - doing tonight
Fix window - done
Termite inspection - need to schedule
Overflow pan for water heater - errrrr...

Of course, all this is on top of the normal cleaning we still have to do. I took a stab at it last night and got a couple of rooms done. I think I'm too anal though; I probably do more than what's required. I walked around last night and put blue stickies everywhere something needed to be touched up. There's a lot of blue stickies. We made a lot more marks on the walls during packing and moving than I realized. Oh well, that's what paint is for.

The new house is going great! I think the move went really well. With so many people we had everything moved in no time. Thanks again to everyone!! Also, thanks to the Chris & the Pollards for all the miniblind installations; we now have a bit more privacy than before. Jeff & Mike installed the garage door opener last weekend; now if we could just park in the garage.... We hung some curtains in the study and installed the track lighting. I've tried to clear boxes room by room, but I just end up moving them around instead. Until we get the townhouse finalized, we have to focus more of our efforts on that.

And of course there's always work. If yesterday was any indication as to the rest of the month, I'm going to come home exhausted everyday. If every aspect of my job could have a crisis, I think it all happened yesterday. Must have been a full moon or something, it was weird.

But anyway, I must be off. Have to meet Jeff to clean the townhouse. Perhaps one day this week I'll get some more pictures posted.

June 28, 2006Lava flows & black sand beaches, here I come!

On the eve of Fiscal Year End 2006 I wait with much anticipation as to what may occur. As in past years, the financial situation has been volatile, however, it's never been quite like this. Within a matter of hours yesterday we went from having no money, to having lots of money (process everything now!), back to having no money again. If my head's spinning from thinking about all this, I can't imagine how the finance director and budget manager handle it all..

Work has been, to say the least, extremely busy the last few weeks. I can't say I'll miss the long days, working from home, and constant ringing of the phones. Unfortunately, even after tomorrow's deadline of 4pm comes and goes, I'll still be working my butt off getting ready to leave everything in my coworker's hands.

It's amazing how much has to be done to finalize everything I'm working on now, to leave as few loose ends as possible. When you work pretty much solo, you can't just drop everything and expect someone else to know what the heck is going on. So on top of processing what's currently on my desk, I have to leave detailed instructions on how to handle things while I'm gone.

But once I'm on that plane, you can bet I won't be thinking about work!

In other good news, we are finally single house-home owners. Our buyer was supposed to close on the 16th, but the day of the closing decided to switch lenders. Legally, we could sue her for any costs incurred during this delay, but it would cost more in legal fees than what it's worth. But we did receive notification yesterday that she closed on the house so now it's completely over with, which is a good feeling.

I know there have been other things I wanted to talk about, but the last few weeks have been so exhausting that any odd thought that wasn't completely relevant to the moment passed through my brain immediately, leaving room for much more important things.

Maybe I'll be functioning at 100% in August. :)
