April 10, 2006Crunch Time

Well, I have some good news and some bad news:
Drywall
Good news: Our new house is rapidly moving along. Last Wednesday the insulation was put in. The framing inspection failed the first time so we didn't think drywall would go in until today, but the guys worked on Saturday and got it all done. We think they ran out though cause there's a few pieces missing in the garage. The siding is done and the shutters are hung. Our final walk through is May 25 and closing is scheduled for May 30.

Bad news: All of the above. While it's great they're ahead of schedule (original projected completion date was July), that means we have less time left to sell the townhouse. We've been kept up to date on the schedule, and we knew it was going to be the end of May, beginning of June, but we weren't counting on having such a hard time selling the townhouse. Since closing on a house can typically take 30 days from the day the contract is written up, that leaves us very little wiggle room, even if we find a buyer in the next couple weeks.

So what's next? We have to lower our asking price. This is not something we wanted to have to do, but we're out of time. The open house yesterday was a bust; only had one person actually stop by and look. The only comforting fact in all this is that it's not just us. Our neighbors are having a hard time selling right now too. The whole thing is very stressful and makes me think twice about buying and selling a house again!
