Whew! Breathing is slowly returning to normal...
I was sitting here, at my desk, checking up on some things, chatting to people, when I see a firetruck go by. Not too unusual, there's a firestation nearby. Then I notice it's turning into our parking lot! I hear a loud pop, and I'm out of my chair, looking towards the lot entrance.
All I could see were flames and flashing lights. I immediately head for the door, practically running over a coworker who had come by to say he was leaving. "There's a car on fire!" I yelled as I flew out the door.
I was starting to panic since I knew I had parked on that side of the lot today, but couldn't remember exactly where. Lucky for me, it was not my car, but the one parked across the road from me.
Turns out a lady driving down Parham saw smoke start coming through the vents, so she turned into our lot. I'm not sure how much time elapsed between her parking and the trucks getting there, but when I saw it, the whole car was engulfed in flames.
Everyone who was still working, or on their way out the door was standing outside. I think the gas tank must have ruptured, there was liquid running down the road. The fire just kept coming back. Since the thing was totaled anyway, the firemen just let the fuel burn off, just kept in contained.
Crazy. I think it's time to go home now.

January 25, 2005Sleeping on a cloud
Just over a week ago Jeff and I finally broke down and decided to get a new mattress. I would say that's one of the best decisions we've made so far!
We visited several stores up and down Broad Street only to return to the first store, and get the first one we had really liked. Throughout our adventure we discovered that each mattress store/chain uses different names for each mattress to keep consumers from being able to price compare. I think that's a pretty shitty thing to do.
What we ended up with is a Simmons Beautyrest® Exceptionale™ which is supposed to be one of their higher quality mattresses. It has a plush top, versus a pillow top, and it's twice as fat as our old mattress. Took a while to get used to seeing it on our platform bed, but man is it comfortable!!
Sure does make it hard to get out of bed and go to work!
