December 14, 2004O Christmas Tree!
Last week I made a date with Jeff, telling him he couldn't schedule any house calls, meetings, or poker games for Friday because we were finally going to decorate the tree. It had been sitting in the living room, bare, for a week and I was tired of it!
Luckily, Gizmo hadn't messed with it at all, so we felt pretty comfortable putting the lights and ornaments on. Of course, he (Gizmo) had to spend some quality time with himself in the guest room during all this, but it really was for the best.
After wrestling with the lights (why, oh why, didn't we get a pre-lit tree?), we were finally satisfied that it was adequately covered, yet had no dangling wires for Jaws to find. And then came the fun part, unwrapping all the ornaments I've been collecting for years. Many had never even been taken out of the box.
Right now I think we have too many store bought (Hallmark) ornaments, and not enough unique or hand made ones. But I suppose it's still early in our ornament collecting life. :) And we also don't have anything traditional to put on top, so we used a Santa hat instead. I haven't been able to find a tree topper that fits our taste; maybe we're too picky? Nah!
Last weekend, when we put the tree together, I also decorated the rest of the downstairs. I've decided I have too many small (Christmas) knick-knacks and not enough big, make a statement, decorations. Not that we have the space for big things, but the little ones get lost sometimes. Plus, I have a crazy cat to think about.
I suppose it's time to get some Christmas cards in the mail...
