August 9, 2004Bridget & Kevan's Wedding
Ok, so I'm a little behind. I don't know what my problem is. July 17 was Bridget and Kevan's wedding, in Asheville, NC. For anyone who doesn't know, Bridget was one of my roommates from college. Since the wedding was late afternoon/early evening, Jeff and I got up early Saturday and headed out. We made it with enough time to check into out hotel, change clothes, get lost, and finally find our way there. Homewood was their location of choice and it was a perfect place for a wedding. The building itself, where the reception was located, is a restored 1920's house. Across the street the ceremony was help in the gardens; a georgeous area nestled in the trees, with a stone stairway to the bottom. Despite the rain that started almost immediately, the processional went on as planned. The bridal party made their way down the steps after the groomsmen had taken their place. Midway through it looked as though the rain would stop, but then it came backa agin, harder than before. Needless to say, we were soaked by the time it was over. Bridget's dad was a co-officiant with an former teacher of Kevan's. I bet that was neat being able to marry his own daughter. Afterwards, all the guests mingled under a tent for the 'cocktail hour' while pictures were being taken. Luckily the reception itself was inside. We got to hang out with the rest of the 200B ladies and their significant others. Speaking of which, congratulations to Sara and Eric, engaged on July 4th! Sunday, Bridget & Kevan had everyone come to their house for a farewell breakfast. There was a ton of food and a ton of people, but with the long drive ahead of us, we got on the road before noon. Overall, I think we had a pretty good time; I don't see any of this crowd very much, even though Maggie lives right here in town. I guess we just move in different circles now. It takes a special event to get us all together now. Good thing there's still 2 weddings to go. Posted by Olivia at 11:31 AM | Comments (1) Find me in: College Days August 9, 2004All By Myself..
July 22, Mike & Brian whisked Jeff away to New Orleans for a weekend trip, leaving me to entertain myself. Luckily, we have some very good friends who didn't let me sit at home all weekend. Saturday evening the rest of the Richmond crowd headed out to the Gooch for some good company, food, and gambling. It's just a good thing we weren't playing for real money! I can't really remember what else I did, but I'm sure that, as usual, I ran a lot of errands and did a lot of cleaning. :) Posted by Olivia at 3:23 PM | Comments (2) Find me in: Chit Chat August 18, 2004I flit, I float, I fleetly flee, I fly
As you can see, I've been extremely uninspired to blog about anything. Not that I haven't done anything fun, because I have. As Jeff mentioned, we hung out with the 'truckers' two weekends in a row: East Coast Nationals here in Richmond, and Carlisle All-Truck Nationals in Carlisle, PA. I have to say, the Carlisle trip made us both appreciate our good friends even more. It's nice to have a group of people you share the same basic values and feelings with. You don't (usually) have to worry about them doing something that would completely embarrass you. And I appreciate that. Jeff and I kicked ourselves in high gear last week to bring you all the wedding invitations on time. I'm very happy with the result. Although it was a lot of work, it was a lot of fun too. Makes me wish I had/made some time to work on my scrapbook again. We are slowly wrapping up all the little details. My dress is in the processed of being hemmed, so that's a relief. My hope for not having to do all these things last minute kind of went down the drain months ago when we decided to put off planning until 6 months before. Oh well. It's one day, right? In the grand scheme of things, do the type of stamp used or the table decorations really matter all that much? And no, we didn't argue about stamps, just bought the one the post office had available. How many people (except freakish scrapbookers like myself) even keep the envelope anyway? Even I throw it away after gluing that the invitation to a page. On the homefront, we seem to have a small infestation of ants that like to gather in Gizmo's food bowls. They even followed the bowls to the other side of the room while the interior of the outside dining room wall was being caulked. Weird creatures. In the working world, one of the recently hired ladies in Purchasing put in her 2 weeks notice last week; Friday is her last day. I considered applying for the position which would be a higher pay grade, but decided the extra money wouldn't be worth the headache and hassle that comes with that job. I don't blame her for leaving. Even though the job has already been posted, they brought in a temp to learn some things before she leaves. Very forward thinking of someone; Someone: I applaud you. The temp we've got is a retired military man, who I'm guessing is just temping to keep himself busy, is definitely a go getter. He seems to be 2 steps in front of everyone always asking questions about things we haven't even thought to tell him yet. And this is only his second day. I guess that will sum up things for now. So until I get another urge to blog, check out planetgordon.com, the blog of a metrosexual groom who's frustration with the lack of wedding related information for males influenced him to start his own blog about the wedding process. I was pleasantly surpised yesterday afternoon with the arrival of a new 21" flat screen monitor! I had no idea I would be one of the first in my office to get one, but man, is it nice! Now, if only the video card would support higher than 1600....
As you can see, it has the ability to rotate as well as rotating the actual orientation of the display. That's pretty cool. And speaking of work, I got so fed up with turning into a popsicle that I went to WalMart during lunch one day and bought myself a fleecey purple blanket. Everyone laughs at me when I walk around with it, but I don't care, at least I'm warm! Posted by Olivia at 1:43 PM | Comments (3) Find me in: Working Girl Blues August 30, 2004Blah
