February 2, 2004Superbowl XXXVIII

Panthers v PatriotsThe evening of Super Bowl Sunday was spent lounging around at Brians. We anxiously waited through the game for the commercials. Then we anxiously waited through the commercials for the good ones.

Overall, the game was pretty boring (until the last 10 minutes), the commercials were boring, but the company was great!

We also had a mini-birthday celebration for Jeff. He even got to blow out a candle. Aww...

Survivor of course, was the highlight for many people. Personally, I could take it or leave it, but don't tell Jeff & Lauren that!

February 3, 2004Birthday fun

Jeff and I spent the evening of his birthday just hanging out at home. We whipped up some waffles (with warm cherry topping), reminiscent of our Radford breakfast days. I always loved those mornings. Except when I was stood up because someone overslept!

One of my gifts to him was an iSight which he's using as a webcam at work. So yes folks, the webcam has been revived! Yay!!

February 7, 2004A little Gino's is what I need...

...by Activision!Friday night Jeff and I met up with the boys for some Gino's dining. They have the best fries! Afterwards we reconvened at out place to reminisce (or see for the first time), some old Activision games.

Games like Megamania, Ice Hockey, Fishing Derby, and Pitfall. All these, plus a ton more were included in a Playstation game compilation that Eric and Kelly gave Jeff for his birthday. Chris showed us all up by remembering almost move for move many of the "plays" for these games.

So thanks to Eric and Kelly for supplying some new entertainment!

February 8, 2004Mmm..I love candy!

Ice Cream of the Future!Jeff and I spent Saturday afternoon/evening running all over Richmond. We started out at Virginia Center Mall, where we discovered Dippin' Dots had moved in! For those of you who have never experienced Dippin' Dots, where have you been???

Best Buy was the next stop on our list. Jeff had several birthday gift cards to redeem. We spent a long time looking at movies and games. I do believe he managed to spend all his money though!

After that, instead of going home, I suggested we run by Chesterfield Town Center to visit the only bulk candy store in the area (that I know of). And of course this isn't even the best kind. But no matter, we found some yummy candy anyway. :) (After searching forever for an Advance or Auto Zone. Eventually we found a Pep Boys, but we had to drive so far!)

A quick run through half the mall left us pretty hungry. Since we were so far south already, we kept going and made a pit stop at Uno for their tasty pizza skins. When are they going to build one on this side of the river??

With all those new movies Jeff had just purchased we decided to veg out in front of the TV for a while. It's been a long time since we just sat around and watched movies like that. Definitely need to do more of it though!

February 13, 2004Sprucing up the house

Sunday I spent much of the day running up and down the stairs with laundry, caulk, paint, and cleaning stuff. I started out wanting to fix up some of the cracks in the baseboards of the stairs. I ended up pulling up all the old caulk (2 layers already) and redoing the entire thing. Better to have one good layer than three crappy ones, right?

Our bathroom needed a little fixing up around the tub too. As I walk through the house now I keep noticing more and more places where, as the house settles, the paint is cracking, the caulking on the counters in pulling away from the wall, or the drywall screws are starting to pop through. It's pretty frustrating because I just can't keep up. But I suppose things like this will always be a work in progress.

So after all the work on the stairs and the bathroom (including cleaning it) and 8 loads of laundry, I was pretty pooped!

February 17, 2004Early nights, Daytona and a bunch of Cats

For some reason, after work on Friday, I was just drained. I came home and sat on the couch not wanting to move. I'm not really sure why, I definitely didn't have a hard day.; I rearranged some files for most of it. But man, I was pooped!

But Jeff and I mustered up enough energy to make it to dinner at O'Charley's with the boys. Dinner was good, the company better, but afterwards we all decided to go our separate ways. No offense to anyone, but I knew I would just fall asleep no matter what we ended up doing!
Go Tony!
And that's exactly what happened. Believe it or not, but Jeff and I actually went to bed before midnight. What an odd feeling. Especially for a Friday night. But it was worth it. (Not that we actually woke up any earlier than normal though!)

Saturday, Valentine's Day, started out running errands. We hit a couple of stores before deciding to eat an earlier-than-normal dinner at none other than the fabulous, Taco Bell! That's right folks, our Valentine's Day dinner was at the fine dining establishment of Taco Bell. No lines, no 2 hour wait, no loud, smokey restaurant. Top that off with keylime pie, what more could a person want? It was perfect. :)

Sunday of course marked the first Nascar race of the 2004 season. The Daytona 500 is the 'superbowl' for Nascar. I still don't understand it, but whatever. Tony ran hard, leading almost half the laps, but Jr managed to get by him with 20 laps to go and went on to win the race. :(

The 'big one' happened on lap 71, with 12 cars involved in the crash that sent Waltrip tumbling in the grass. Luckily, he, and all the other drivers, were ok. He walked away from that; just amazing.
Cats!
After the race ended Jeff and I quicky got ready for the evening. As an early birthday present Jeff purchased tickets for Cats, which was showing this weekend at the Landmark Theater. I'd seen it once, several years ago, but didn't remember too much of the actual performance.

I thoroughly enjoyed myself, despite the fur-clad lady sitting next to me (bleh!) My only complaint was the sound. The performers voices, when singing together, were somewhat muffled and drowned out by the orchestra. But the show was great. It was fun to get sing along (well, to myself, not out loud of course!)

The light dusting of snow topped off the night. (Along with the Frosty's!)
