December 3, 2003More new furniture
Those two items are the last big pieces we'd been wanting for the living room. As much as I love my rolltop desk it just doesn't fit with the style we're going for. So we now have a glass/metal desk that works much better. I decided it would be wise to wait to put it together when we had more room. Right now we have some extra furniture sitting around. :) The coffee table is also glass/metal. The biggest reasoning was to make it Gizmo-proof. As most of you know, he scratched up the wooden one terribly and we really didn't want that to happen again. But that's ok, I'm pleased with what we got. We did end up buying the floor model though. It was going to take 16 weeks to special order since they were out of stock. There's no way I'm waiting that long for another piece of furniture! Later that evening we notice a new car parked in front of the potential cat owners building. After about an hour we walked down to see if it was him. Sure enough. And yes, he did rescue some kittens from the hurricane. And yes, they were the same size and coloring as the one we found. But he only had two. And they were both there. Doh! Our next step was to make up fliers that we posted on the mailboxes in hopes the owners live in the neighborhood. So I went to the doctor on Wednesday. After being up most of Tuesday night coughing, and not being able to get much sleep, I decided it was time to go. Turns out it's bronchitis. The doctor gave me lots of medicine which seems to be helping some. I actually got to sleep Wednesday day, which was really nice. Last night I didn't fare quite as well, so I'm pretty tired today. But I'm making it. I've been leaving work early everyday this week and today will probably be no different. Sorry for the lack of bloggage lately. When Jeff moved me to his new server, we had some complications with MT and email logins. But Jeff has fixed it all now, and I'll be adding some new blogs shortly. Posted by Olivia at 11:57 AM | Comments (0) Find me in: Web Geekiness December 11, 2003Our visitor leaves us
As most of you know, Jeff was able to find a home for our visiting kitten. A friend of a coworker's mother or something wanted another cat to add to her menagerie. We met her Monday night at Regency for the hand off. The little kitten, now named Lovey, so I hear, was so cute in the car. After a while she got between my head and the headrest, and just sat on my shoulders. So cute. I miss her, but I'm glad she has a home to run around in and other animals to play with. About 4pm on Tuesday I was sitting at my desk when all of a sudden the building started to vibrate. I immediately checked outside for an 18-wheeler possibly making a delivery. Nope. The shaking continued for a few more seconds before stopping. Those of us in the office gathered near the door wondering what had just happened. When I got back to me desk and found out Chris, Jon, and Paul had experienced the same thing, we figured it was an earthquake. Shortly, our thoughts were confirmed on the news. The 4.5 quake originated about 30 miles west of Richmond, very close to the May quake (that I hadn't even heard about). That was one of the coolest things I've experienced (as far as natural occurrences go), but I'm glad it was only a minor one that caused little to no damage. I can't imagine living in a place that has large scale earthquakes frequently. I wonder if Virginia will start having more frequent quakes? Hmm... Work this week has been fairly busy as I'm still catching up on Thanksgiving holiday work as well as being out a lot of last week. I think I've finally got it all under control though. Yesterday we had our annual building holiday (potluck) lunch. I guess it went ok. Seems we had less people and less food than last year. I can't figure out who we're missing though... I'm so glad it's Friday, I need a nap. I still haven't been sleeping well due to the incessant coughing. Lauren, got anything good for a cough? :) Posted by Olivia at 12:06 PM | Comments (1) Find me in: Working Girl Blues December 15, 2003Monday Madness
1. As a kid, did you ever catch your parent(s) playing the part of Santa, the Easter Bunny or the Tooth Fairy? 2. Did you ever search for your presents? Were you successful? 3. If so, did you do it again? Posted by Olivia at 2:48 PM | Comments (1) Find me in: Questions to Ponder December 21, 2003Flying high
So my Christmas plans have changed slightly. Instead of driving 14 hours to Arkanas I'll now be flying. After talking with Jeff we both came to the conclusion that I probably should not be on the road in my condition. So we hopped online and found a pretty good price for tickets. So I'm off to the airport tomorrow. Everyone travel safe! Posted by Olivia at 10:52 PM | Comments (4) Find me in: All About Me December 25, 2003Home for the Holidays
Merry Christmas everyone!!
About 12:30 we landed in Little Rock. Bruce picked me up since mom and dad were at the dentist. We've just been hanging out since then. Did a little shopping with my mom on Tuesday. Picked up those last minute presents that always seem to pop up no matter how hard you try. And of course we had to visit the cross stitch and scrapbook stores. :) Yesterday morning my dad and I picked up the Mustang from the shop. They were surprising my brother for Christmas by getting it up and running again. I still can't believe he didn't hear us pull into the garage around noon. I guess I would still be sleeping if I'd gone to bed after 4 too.
Opening presents happened this morning and now we're waiting for Bruce to get back from his girlfriend's house so we can eat. I'm getting really hungry (it's 3:30!). So he better show up soon!! Posted by Olivia at 4:24 PM | Comments (2) Find me in: Family Fun
