February 3, 2003Happy Birthday Jeff!

This is a slightly belated happy birthday to Jeff! (We've been so busy playing Vice City and spending time with his family I hadn't been online all day.)

But happy 25th birthday anyway!

February 3, 2003What's in the box??

Jeff receives this mysteriously brown wrapped package from Brian the other day. On the outside were instructions to not open until February 2. Shortly after midnight Saturday/Sunday he unwraps it. (First checking out the url on the back, what a cool idea Brian!) Lincoln logs!

At first we were slightly confused..we gave Brian a set of lincoln logs at Christmas and thought maybe he was giving them back. But no, I had seen his set up in his room, so that can't be. The note said he noticed Jeff checking this 'gift' out when we were in his room, so we figured, ok, I guess he thought we'd like to play with some too.

Check out the conversation Brian and I had this afternoon:

Peer 2 all: did you guys figure out jeff's little toys?

Mac8Girl: it was so funny..he was so perplexed by what it was that he opened it just after midnight. But you know, he never opened the actual box. We assume it's lincoln logs

Peer 2 all: took me half an hour to figure out how to [insert slight hint here] on mine.

Peer 2 all: you haven't opened it?

Peer 2 all: it's not lincoln logs.

Mac8Girl: lol! he's going to shit

Peer 2 all: he thanked me today for lincoln logs. i thoguht he was kidding

Peer 2 all: that's HIS box. i just needed a box

Peer 2 all: ohmylord.

Peer 2 all: do me a favor and smack that kid.

Peer 2 all: what a putz.

Peer 2 all: why would I send him lincoln logs? you guys just gave ME lincoln logs? did you guys joke all day about how senile Brian's gotten?

Peer 2 all: hehe

Mac8Girl: well, he kinda wondered, he was like "are these the same ones we sent Brian?" as in the same box and contents, like you never opened it. I told him no, cause you had yours set up already and that you must have sent him the same because he was looking at yours (which you mentioned in the note that he had done)

Peer 2 all: ah...

Mac8Girl: this is so funny

Peer 2 all: my lord.

Peer 2 all: no. it's not lincoln logs

Mac8Girl: hang on, lemme send him this conversation

Peer 2 all: this is funny

So let this be a lesson to you all...never assume what's on the outside of the box is what's actually on the inside!

At this moment Jeff is rushing home to open the box :)

**11:14PM Check it out! These are awesome, thanks Brian!!

February 5, 2003A little line dancin'

Last night I met up with some of my coworkers to engage in some line dancing. Don't laugh, it's not how it seems. One of the heads of security here at the college teaches class every Tuesday at this church (I assumme it's where he attends). After he used line dancing as an ice break in a workshop we had back before Christmas, he's been trying to get us to come out and dance.

My coworkers had already been going for the last 2 weeks so I thought I'd give it a shot. It's been a while since I've done any real dancing. I learned some line dances back when I was in high school, but I've long forgotten them now.

But we had fun. It was good exercise and something different to do. Anyone else want to join us next week??

February 8, 2003Statue of Liberty..in Richmond?

So I was driving down Route 1 (Brook Rd) yesterday and as I passed though the Parham intersection say a strange site. There was a woman walking down the sidewalk dressed at the Statue of Liberty. Robe, crown, torch, she had it all. Now I know Richmond has it's weirdos, but this is one of the stranger things I have seen. I mentioned this siting to the lady cutting my hair and she told me it was some promotional deal for the cell phone store there at the corner. I just can't imagine what kind of sale would need a Lady Liberty walking around outside in the cold.

What's the weirdest thing you've seen around town?

February 10, 2003A marbled bathroom & some computer art

Since Jeff has already spoiled my project of the weekend, guess I'll at least mention it. He finally got me off my ass to paint the bathroom downstairs. See what watching too much Trading Spaces will do to a person? Just kidding, I've been planning on doing it since we moved in, just never made the time or took the effort.

Since the application was more work that I had thought, Jeff suggested only doing one wall with the texture. So we did. It ended up changing the rest of our plans (painting the trim, ceiling and shelf), but I think the lighter accents will look better.

So that's my exciting news for the weekend. Jeff made some really cool art this weekend. We might even put it somewhere besides the computer room!

February 11, 2003Routed and rerouted

You'd think finding out why a company is paying you would be simple. But believe me, it's not.

I have 2 checks here from US Treasury. So I call the general info number listed on the website. (Office in DC) I then get sent to the Austin, TX office where the check was processed. From there I'm told it's from the Department of Veteran Affairs. I call another general number and some how end up in Roanoke. The person there tells me I need to speak with the Buffalo, NY office. That office hardly has a clue and sends me to another department. But first they give me the wrong number, so I have to call back, sit through the entire menu system again just to talk to a real person. I get the number, call, and the girl barely says 2 words (the whole time smacking like she's eating). Turns out, there should be a letter coming soon (from our local Richmond Office) to explain the check!

Agh!!

February 18, 2003Ice pellets and snow days

Friday
As we all left work Friday everyone was saying "See you Tuesday" in anticipation of the winter weather. Turns out it'll be Wednesday or later! That's right folks, I have another day off!

Friday was a pretty busy day work-wise. I probably could have stayed another 2 hours and still not gotten everything done that I needed too. But oh well, it'll be there tomorrow..or Wednesday. :)

Brian and Paul arrived sometime that evening with Chris following shortly behind. We all piled into Chris' car and headed for Eric and Kelly's for our 'Black Friday' celebration. We ordered delicious food from Rocco's and played Scattagories and Outburst.

Saturday
Saturday Jeff and I slept in while Brian went out jogging in the rain. We eventually met up with Mike, Lauren, Paul and Chris and headed south to eat at Uno's (which is actually just Uno, but sounds stupid). After a yummy lunch Mike and Lauren showed us the house they're planning to buy. Turns out they found this house last weekend and immediately knew they wanted it so the whole process is going very quick. The house is very much like our townhouse in style, just slightly (sarcastic) bigger. If everything works out we could be helping them move in soon.

Saturday night's Richbrau plans were canceled when the rain turned to ice (and Jill couldn't make it). But the party just moved to Mike & Lauren's and we had fun anyway. We all teamed up for some Movie and then Music trivia games. I ended up being on Jeff and Mike's team so of course that was pretty crazy. Around 1am Jeff, Paul and I decided to head out so we could get some sleep before skiing the next day.

It had been icing most of the night and vdot hadn't had time to scape all the roads yet so getting back was a long process. But we made it and got back in time for a few hours of sleep.

Sunday
Since we were skiing on a Sunday we planned to do the day ski (9-4:30). So we had to get to Eric and Kelly's around 6:30am. On a normal day this would have been possible, but with all the ice on the road it took forever to drive the curvy roads back to their house. And even driving the interstate to Wintergreen was very slow. We ended up getting to the lift ticket window about 11:40am.

Knowing that, we went ahead and bought tickets for the twilight ski (12:30-10). Weather conditions on the slopes were just the same as in Richmond, ice. Paul went on down the hill so Jeff and I followed. But we both stopped short when the ice pellets stung. Neither of us were going to make it down without goggles so we trudged back up the incline and to the stores. Lucky for us we made it there when we did, they had 9 pairs left. But also unlucky for us, the cheapest one they had was $70. Paul radioed in saying he was coming to get some too so we picked up a pair for him before they all disappeared.

So back out on the slopes we went. The goggles helped immensely so down we went. Ice pelting us in the face, we skiied (or snowboarded) for a few hours before stopping for a lunch break. Getting back out was hard after sitting down. The later it got the worse the weather became. The powder was so thick it was hard to move in and the wind was blowing us back up the mountain. That was actually kind of nice because I didn't have to work as hard to slow myself down. But at the same time, using skiis without poles (snow blades) makes it hard to move on flatter spots and the wind just stopped me in my tracks.

By 5pm we were exhausted and frozen. At least the trek back to the car was downhill. Jeff took advantage of this by using his snowboard as a sled. We picked the car up from the Gooch and were in Short Pump around 9pm. Nothing was open.Wait, I think Wal-Mart was. But that's it. So we called the gang, said forget it, don't bother coming out. Jeff, Paul & I ended up eating subs from WaWa then crashing.

Monday
We all slept in again and woke up stiff and sore from skiing. The 3 of us took turns shoveling the sidewalk in preparation for the rest of the gang coming over. An hour later they still didn't have the cars scraped so we went to Taco Bell without them. Since Brian decided the roads were still too bad to drive home today, we've spent the afternoon/night playing games and watching tv.

Even though I don't have work I still have to get up for a dentist appoinment, so I better get to bed. Anyone else have another snow day?

February 20, 2003A most productive day..and then taxes

Ever have those days where everything goes smoothly, you're energetic and productive?

Well I had that yesterday. I woke up with enough time to do something with my hair and fix lunch AND make it to work on time! And once I was at work, I kicked ass all day long. I must have filed at least 100 papers, paid a massive stack of invoices, and just did some major cleaning up. It was a good day.

And then I came home. And did my taxes.

For someone who works in Accounting I sure have absolutely no patience for doing taxes. I hate the idea of them, I hate the process in doing them, I hate the results after doing them (it's never that wonderful). I guess the only good thing so far is that I've never had to pay (Thanks to Mrs. P last year!)

As Jeff mentioned, we had to figure out what do to with the house. While I was debating whether or not to even deal with it last night, Jeff went ahead and started figuring it up with him claiming the house. So I did mine without, and then with. Less that $200 difference. I have no idea what his would have been without, but I guess it doesn't matter.

In a weird way I feel cheated. It's my house too, damnit! But I suppose the good thing is I didn't have to bother with all that interest and points and insurance crap. :) Maybe next year.

February 24, 2003Just another manic Monday

Why is it that the majority of my site's traffic is on a Monday? Do people really not want to face the fact that the weekend is over and they have to go back to work? (Why else would I be writing this now, right?)

So what did everyone do this weekend? I myself did absolutely nothing, and it was lovely. The most productive thing I did was run a few errands on Saturday. We need more weekends like this.

This is like that last 30 minutes of work, when you know anything you start working on will be at least an hour project, so you just fool around until it's time to go. But for me, right now, I still have an hour and a half. But I still can't seem to make myself do any work.

In case I confused anyone, I'm leaving at 2:30 for a meeting with my new oral surgeon. That's right folks, after almost 6 years of talking and complaining about it I'm finally going to get my wisdom teeth out. Yikes! I guess the meeting today is just to prepare for the actual 'event.'

I hope we can get this done as soon as possible because I don't want to wait anymore. It's kinda like getting a major haircut; once you decide to do, you have to do it right away or you'll lose the nerve.

Hmm..guess that's it for now. Go Tony!

Yikes!!

I never thought this would happen quite so soon! Looks like I'm going in Thursday (that's February 27th, 3 days from now!) to get my teeth out.

Might as well do it and get it over with!

February 25, 2003It's gettin' hot in herre!

hot

I know most of the time I complain about it being really cold in my office (well, I do to my fellow IMers). But today it's about to reach boiling. I just figured there was something wrong with the heat in the building, so I turned my fan on and went on my merry, sweat-dripping way.

But I just found out from a co-worker that out of the 3 thermostats in our section of the first floor, one was set on 85 and another on 90!!!! Who would do such a thing!?! Unbelievable! Needless to say, we turned those babies down and hopefully it'll cool off in here!

*Dramatization. Actual thermostat may vary. Eat your veggies. Professional thermostat reader in closed room with padded walls. Mmm..ice cream. Do not attempt at home. Go Tony!

February 27, 2003More snow!! (and a surgery!)

snowychair

Can you believe we have MORE snow! It's was flurry-ing yesterday when I went to work and just got steadily harder as the day went on. I'm guessing we have about 2 inches.

And no, if you all are wondering, work was not closed today. (There was a 2 hour delay though heheh) Not that I'm going to be there anyway.

My appointment has been moved up to 11, so I gotta finish getting dressed and get going. Stayed tuned next week for "Teeth Extraction: the Aftermath."

And on a side note: Brian, I know what you mean about the stupid snow drivers. I experienced them last night and was getting so frustrated with them going 30 all the way down Staples Mill...grr. And the lines at WaWa were 2 deep. Crazy people.

February 27, 2003Teeth Extraction: The Aftermath

5:30 PM and I'm mostly awake and clear. That was one of the oddest experiences in my life. They put me on nitrous oxide when I first got there, to help me relax first. I really didn't think it was working until she got the IV in me. And before they even started the "medicine that would make me forget everything," I started to slip into unconsciousness.

I remember the nurse and/or doctor saying that one of their earlier patients today said it felt like he was back in college (drinking). I laughed and agreed, it sort of did. And then I was out.

At some point I felt a little uncomfortableness (is that a word?) and think I made some wimpering noises. Near the end, when I was starting to come out of it I could hear them talking and hear/feel the machines.

Next thing I know Jeff is walking in. I don't remember putting my coat on, but I vaguely remember walking out to the car because the nurse came with us. And then we were home. After showing Jeff where my insurance card and drivers license were so he could get my prescription filled, I fell asleep.

I only woke up one other time. Jeff wanted me to eat so I could take the medicine, but all I wanted to do (and did do) was go back to sleep. I got up at 4 and had some soup, oyster crackers, the red pill :) and some cheesecake.

My face and tongue are still numb, especially the left side (2 teeth left, 1 right). I just hope the pain pill kicks it because I'm having a little discomfort with the bottom side. I don't think I'm too puffy yet. I've kept ice on it for a while now. No bruising so far either.

-Oh, and for those who want to know, no uncontrollable drooling or projectile vomiting.
