November 5, 2002Ban the minivan!
Jeff & I spent a very quiet and relaxing weekend in Williamsburg. Did a little shopping (ok, a lot) and little eating, and a lot of avoiding The Minivan. I've decided that minivans should be banned from the earth. (Sorry Mr P!) I can't believe how many horrible drivers out there are driving minivans. Is it because they're so long? Tall? Too many blind spots? Or do the people just not care? Either way, I've had enough! Ok, back to our weekend. We hit all the major outlet shops and on Sunday walked through the Colonial Shops by W&M. It was the first time (that I remember) ever going into those stores. I don't think I'll be going back, too much old stuff. :) It was nice to get away and do something different. Maybe next time we'll go to the Bahamas or something (Yeh, right!) Posted by Olivia at 10:49 AM | Comments (2) Find me in: Chit Chat November 7, 2002Emotioneric.com

Here I sit, in the middle of potential tornado watches, trying to work. It's kind of hard when I'm looking out the window every five seconds. As I was leaving the house this morning the tornado watch moved from Hanover to Caroline County which is between Richmond and Fredericksburg. It looked like it was snowing as I was walking into the office, except it was just the leaves blowing off the trees. Wish I had my camera..hmm. It's still raining. As I was pulling onto Staples Mill this morning, I passed a Q94 radio van. I turned the radio to that station and shortly they began giving a weather report. Ironically, they started talking to the guy in the van I had just passed (he mentioned his location). He said that it was pouring and that the wind was really rough. I seem to recall it barely sprinkling and calm enough for the workers across the street to be lifting a roof onto a building with a crane. Hmm...guess you can't believe everything they say on the radio! Posted by Olivia at 10:29 AM | Comments (1) Find me in: Weather Words November 11, 2002I think it's the same cow
Now this is what I call a drive-in theater! Posted by Olivia at 12:29 PM | Comments (3) Find me in: Weather Words November 15, 2002It's Aloha Friday!
Thanks to Kalar who recently commented on my tenth entry, I now have the lyrics to "Aloha Friday." Maybe next I'll be able to find an mp3. Hmm..well, I would paste them all here, but it's an image and I don't feel like typing the whole thing, so I'll link to it instead. Enjoy! If there was ever a day I didn't feel like working it would be today. I have no motivation to actually work. I still think we need to petition for 3 day weekends/4 day work weeks. I guess I do have the option to work four 10 hour days if I wanted to have an extra day off. But that would mean getting up earlier...nah. Seems like Jeff and I are the only slackers when it comes to blogging about this weekend. I have to be inspired (or really bored) to write. I had a great time this weekend. I was a little apprehensive about being alone all weekend; it was the first time I'd been in the house by myself. As it turns out, I was gone all Saturday, so I didn't really have time to think about being alone. After the boys left on Friday I sat around a watched TV (a lot of MTV) for most of the night. Knowing I had to get up earlier to meet Lauren and the girls, I tried to go to bed at a decent hour. Yeh, that didn't happen. I met Lauren, Kelly and Natalie at 9:45 and we headed south to pick up her mom and grandmother. After what seemed to be an endless ride we got to Farmville. Farmville reminded me a lot of Blacksburg (not that I spent much time there). The shop Lauren found her dress at is a ladies clothing store that also sells formal/prom and wedding dresses. It was the kind of store where you don't actually get to look at the things on the rack, you describe a style and the 'consultant' brings different pieces to you. I'd never done that before; very weird. Lauren showed us her dress, but since she didn't have all the accessories with her didn't get measured for length. Then we started looking at bridesmaids dresses. Lucky me got to be the model and try everything on. This store is the kind that only carries one dress of each style in one or two sizes that's determined by the manufacturer. When a person decides on a particular dress an order is placed for all the sizes that are needed. After trying on 3 or 4 and debating on which color to go with, Lauren decided she liked the glittery one, and we all liked the 2 pieces. And oh look, there just happened to be one that fit! Amazing! Here's a link that Lauren posted on her site. Lauren's mom also found a dress she might get. On the way back to Richmond we decided to go see 8 Mile that evening. Although it wasn't a movie I had been planning on seeing, I did enjoy it. I'd had no idea the story line so on the way to the theater Natalie filled me in. We met up with Kelly, John and Branda and after the movie, stopped at O'Charley's for some dinner. By the time I got home it was about midnight. Poor Gizmo; he was slightly upset at me. Sunday I was woken by the phone; I really hate that. Especially when the people hang up before you answer. I ended up doing laundry and cleaning up while watching the race. Go Tony! Yay! (For all you non-Nascar fans out there, Tony Stewart [#20] won the championship). I guess that's a wrap. Sorry for another long entry. I really just write these for myself, I don't expect many of you to still be reading this right now. Heelloo? Anybody out there?? Helloo?? Still here. Rockin' out these bills. If only these people would just realize that I can't be in four places at once, I think we could really get something accomplished at this place. But enough about me. How are you? Good. That's good to hear. I was worried for a second there. I'm glad you took care of that thing with the guy and the stuff. Close call! Anyhow- the spending season is coming to an end so everyone's in a rush to get their money. I'm typing as fast as I can and squeezing in a kernel or two of popcorn when I get the time. It's crazy, I tell you. Speaking of crazy, can you believe what's going on out there in the big old world? I mean they've got an article about how bad it is for Malvo, one of the beltway snipers. HELLO people!! He's not supposed to be comfortable with cable TV! He killed people. Sheesh. Mmm. Popcorn. Oh- hey- what's everyone doing this week? I'm not quite sure what I'm doing just yet. Paul is taking the week off from work to chill out which sounds nice. I think Mike and Lauren are going to Florida. Brian's going to Disneyworld... It's too long of a drive to see my family in Arkansas. I think I'll save that for the Winter holiday this year. I'm not sure yet about that either. I'm sure it will work out, whatever we do. I'm going to try and get warm in here. In the meantime, leave me some love! Posted by Olivia at 3:25 PM | Comments (3) Find me in: Huh? November 25, 2002They got here too early!
First of all I want to give a big shout-out and thanks to Brian for filling in for me on Friday. That's right folks, I said shout-out. And I also said Brian filled in for me. Nope, that wasn't me. Did anybody have any clue? Didn't think so. :) So I called my mom on Friday to see what the plan was for Thanksgiving. I knew they were heading east, to SC to see my grandparents, but we had discussed the possibility that they come to Richmond for a few days first. When I hadn't heard anything by Friday I figured they probably weren't. I was wrong. 3:30 on Friday I find out they're going to be here on Sunday. Ack!! Jeff and I had plans to go to Charlottesville to pick up the rest of our furniture and continue on to Bridgewater to get Jeff's stock wheels and some tires. That left me with Sunday to clean the house. I left early Friday to get a head start, but didn't get too far. We had to run a few errands and as we were leaving, Mike called. We ended up doing the double date thing with him and Lauren. Drove all the way to southside for some yummy Unos. After sleeping in a little later than we should have on Saturday we got on the road to Charlottesville. We ended up with the already purchased dresser, a new file cabinet and new bookshelf. Oops! Afraid we weren't going to have room for the wheels and tires we forged ahead anyway. Jeff managed to pack it all in the truck. My knees were in the dash, but we made it :) A brief visit with the Pollards and we were back on the road again. A late dinner at Arby's (along with a mass of middle schoolers) and we were ready to put together some furniture. By 2:30 we had the bookcase and file cabinet together and were ready to drop! Sunday was a whirlwind of cleaning, moving and unpacking boxed, removing and hanging towel bars and toilet paper holders, etc. Jeff made a shelf for the computer room closet then we tackled the dresser. By 6 we had the shell of it complete (non of the drawers), but decided to stop and get cleaned up and finish cleaning the house. Little did I know, my parents had just pulled up. Doh! So there we were with an undusted and unvacuumed house. Sigh...we tried. Dinner at Outback and then we finished the drawers. I'll have to get a picture of it later. I'm going to leave work early today so I can either spend some time with my parents or if they've already entertained themselves, finish cleaning up the house! I'm tired of picking up carpet fibers and wood pieces on my socks. Jeff is going to grace my family with his presence over our Thanksgiving holiday. I guess I'll have to return the favor sometime. Maybe one day our families will live close enough so we don't have to choose who to spend the entire holiday with. If mine ever decided to leave the boonies of Arkansas...:) Posted by Olivia at 1:26 PM | Comments (2) Find me in: Home Life
