August 1, 20023207, PT Cruisers & dark chocolate

Ho hum.. another day at the office almost over. Today's actually been my busiest so far this week, yet I'm still left with little/nothing to do for the next hour. This seems to be the week for problems to come out and bite. I won't bore you all with the details cause who really cares about accounting anywayz?

After swimming yesterday Jeff & I drove out to check on the house. No change. I can't wait until they finish up one of the 3 they're working on, so they can really get moving on ours. I just can't believe they're projecting completion in mid-September. I sure hope everything's still on schedule because October 1, we have to be out of the apartment!

On the way home Jeff decided to take a little detour down Broad Street to stop by the Chrysler dealership to see the convertible PT Cruiser they were advertising. Turns out it was an aftermarket modification, and Chrysler won't even be producing them for at least another year. But of course that could be completely wrong because the salesman who came out to help us didn't seem to have a clue about anything. I hate looking at cars and dealing with car salespeople. They always seem to talk down to you, no matter what. Grr..but anywayz.

I've never ridden in either a convertible or a PT Cruiser, so maybe Jeff & I will ride down there again sometime and try to test drive one. I just hope the same guy doesn't come out to help us!

Has anyone tried the Milky Way Midnight? I'd never really given Milky Way much thought until I tried this one. Dark chocolate, fluffy nougat, creamy caramel...mmm...I love dark chocolate and this is by far one of the best uses of it! Now I just have to find it in a regular sized bar instead of the little miniatures.

Guess that's it for now. I think we're getting together with Jennifer tonight, but I really don't know since someone hasn't filled me in on all the details. Anybody have any good movie recommendations? And no, I don't really want to see Goldmember. :)

August 2, 2002No Friday Five

Well, I started to do the Friday Five, but realized I didn't know the answers to any of the questions. But I'll still post them so you guys can answer :)

1. What is your lineage? Where are your ancestors from?

2. Of those countries, which would you most like to visit?

3. Which would you least like to visit? Why?

4. Do you do anything during the year to celebrate or recognize your heritage?

5. Who were the first ancestors to move to your present country (parents, grandparents, etc)?

August 5, 2002Monday Mission 8/5/02

PromoGuy's Monday Mission

1. Ever considered just deleting your Blog and not doing it anymore? What prompted that and what stopped you?

Not deleting it, but just not doing it anymore. I just lose motivation to write anything.

2. How about a quick review of the last movie you saw?

Not Another Teen Movie this weekend; had it's funny moments for sure, but not the most brain stimulating movie of all time :)

3. What's your favorite gadget? Are you lusting for any new ones? Will you ever be satisified???

Gadets don't really affect me the way they do other people. I'm more interested in decorative objects and craft things.

4. What "table game" do you enjoy playing most with other people? Have you played it lately?

I enjoy a lot of different games; my family played a lot of board games when Iwas growing up, and I'm not sure I can pick a favorite.

5. Have you ever been obsessed with something so much that it was close to causing you physical or mental harm? If not, have you known anyone else who has?

Umm..no.

6. Did you grow up in a family or community that displayed racist or prejudice attitudes?  Did it influence you in any way, either toward or away from those views? How did you manage to avoid it, or did you?

No again. Growing up in a military family gave me the opportunity to live in many different places and meet many different types of people. I think it was a huge influence in how I view other people and in being open minded about everyone.

7. Good grief, I am starving! You got anything to eat around here?

How 'bout some pie?

BONUS: What did you tell them?

Who did I tell what? And why?

August 7, 2002What was I going to say?

You know, a couple of days ago I had all these ideas about stuff to write about. But 2 hours later, when I finally got a chance to sit down and type, I had gone completely blank. I'm still not sure what I was thinking about.

Work has been about the same lately. I'm struggling to find things to do most days. It's hard to do your job when everything you do is dependant on other people having their shit together. Oh well.

The house is coming along..I went out there yesterday when Jeff was at his XMug meeting, but not much progress since Monday. I can't wait until they start on the framing. Buildings C, D, & Q are on still being worked on; most units don't even have drywall up yet. I guess once that is done, they'll start in on ours.

Sunday, after sleeping in, Jeff made waffles while I searched for Gizmo's mice. (Toy mice of course) The waffles were so yummy, Jeff did a good job. Now if I could get him to cook every meal! Thanks to the Pollards for the waffle maker!! Now all we need is to get some cherry topping stuff, so it'll feel like we're back in Radford again.

After spending Saturday at the pool, Jeff & I decided to do a little shopping on Sunday. Home Depot had one of the ceiling fans we had been looking at in the sale paper. After comparing it to a similar one at Target, we went with the Home Depot fans. Good thing! They ended up being 20% off the sale price! After browsing though Bed, Bath & Beyond and Linens N Things, we saw some bar stools we liked. Monday we checked our BB&B, and went ahead and bought them since I had two 20% coupons. I know, I know, it's just more to move, but since everything was on sale might as well!

Oh look, it's lunchtime! Mmmmm...

August 19, 2002Hi ho, Hi ho, it's off to work I go...

Wow, what a crazy day.

I'm not sure why, but things at work have been extremely busy the last 2 weeks. I know part of it is due to this Educational Technology Fund (ETF) that the college has access to for a very limited time. So, departments are buying lots and lots of equipment, creating lots and lots of bills for me to pay. Since it all has to be ordered and received by August 30th, things should slow down soon.

I'm also keeping busy because of my "side work" with the business office, another department here in my building. After I was hired to do Payables that left another open spot in the business office (where I was working as a temp). Since they were already down a person before I moved to where I am now, I offered to help out until someone else was hired. And now the work that I've been doing for them has been backing up. But by the time 5:45 rolls around, I don't feel like staying late. Like today, I'm ready to go! Maybe tomorrow...

August 19, 2002Longer than expected

Jeff called Sascha at Ryan today to see how close we are to being finished. We wanted to go ahead and lock in on our interest rate. No go. According to Patrick, the head builder, we're still 40+ days to being completed. If you check that on a calendar you'll see that it puts us at the very end of September. Yikes! So Jeff also called our apartment office to see if we can't extend our lease a little longer. It shouldn't be a problem since they haven't rented it, so it looks like we'll be there until October 15th.

Whew! That takes a load of stress off our shoulders. My best friend, Christina, is getting married the last weekend of September, and I was afraid Jeff was going to have to be moving everything without me! At least now we should have a good week or 2 to get everything moved.

And now, I'm going home. It's been a very long day and I still have to go to the store, and start packing for our (quick) trip to Myrtle Beach!

August 23, 2002Arriving in MB

Jeff and I overslept by 4 hours which got us a late start to Myrtle Beach. After a brief stop in Dunn, NC for some Sonic (yum!) we arrived at the beach around 3pm. The first thing I wanted to do was get out there and see the ocean, but we had to be polite and say hi to Mark & Julia. They had driven their new RV down, and we were going to be staying with them. For those of you who know the Beach, we were at Lakewood Camp Grounds, just south of the old AF Base.

Finally seeing the ocean was refreshing. I will live at the beach one day. Oh yes I will! Jeff & I decided to cruise around town, see what had changed. If any of you didn't know, I lived there when I was in middle school (88-92). Needless to say, a lot has changed, and we wanted to see it all. I won't go into too much detail, but the biggest change I saw was out on 17. Between business and the bypass a new development of shops and restaurants has sprung up: Broadway at the Beach. The four of us ate there at the Keywest Grill. Slightly overpriced, average food, great service. We had tried to get into Hard Rock Cafe, but the line was out the door.

August 24, 2002The new MB

Jeff & I had to get up early and head to Firestone to have the truck aligned and tires rotated. Read more about that on Jeff's site. We met Mark and the rest of the Show-N-Shine staff for lunch at the Hooters in front of Colonial Mall (formerly Briarcliffe Mall), where the show was going to be held. We ate, we talked, then we set up for the show.

Finally hit the beach at 4:30. Too late for much sun, but at least I got to go. Fell asleep almost immediately, and stayed that way until 6pm. Did I mention that I'm going to live at the beach? Jimmy and Kristy had shown up while we were at Hooters, so after cleaning up we met them at Hard Rock for a second try at getting in. It was only a short wait, surprisingly. By the time we finished, most of the shops there had closed, so we drove up to Barefoot Landing.

I was kinda disappointed by the changes. Instead of being real stores that were fun and different, they had mostly turned into touristy crap. They all had the same stuff, most of it not too interesting. Oh well. There's a section of stores that I don't remember being there (but Jeff says it was) and in order to get to it, we had to walk over this long wooden bridge over the lake. And there were alligators in the water. And big fish. Really big fish. Ok, moving on.

We left there at 11, and headed to the Boulevard for a little cruisin' down the strip. Sitting is more like it. It took us at least an hour to get from one end to the other. But it was fun. We got to see all sorts of vehicles and people. Since the campground doesn't allow vehicles to come though after 1am, we had to hurry back to make the curfew. Jeff & I decided to take a walk on the beach since it was such a nice night. Did I mention, oh yeh, I think I did. :)

August 25, 2002A long day in the sun

Bash at the Beach.

I don't really remember what time we got there, all I know is that there was already a line forming for registration. We hadn't been there too long before I was sucked into helping out registering all the vehicles. No more playing with the baby for me. :( And that's what I did for the rest of the day. Even with four of us taking participant & vehicle info it was still late afternoon before we finished. That made for a long, hot day and cramped fingers. Poor Jeff was stuck going from vehicle to vehicle getting liability forms signed. And then he had to walk around taking pictures. Thank goodness for the bucket hat :)

A quick lunch/dinner at Ruby Tuesday with Jimmy, Kristy, Charlie & Kelly we headed back to the hot asphault to get some pics before everyone ran off. Jeff had a couple of banners made up for Custom Tacos, so the guys hung it up on the tent for the show. There were a lot of vehicles there that we hadn't seen before, so that was pretty cool. I went to stand under the tent to get a break from the sun, and again got myself sucked into helping out; this time with scoring.

Saturday night, after checking out the neon competition, Jeff & I went to the Nascar Cafe around 9pm for dinner. The four large screens on the wall were perfect for viewing the Winston race in Bristol that night. And the food wasn't bad either. We didn't stay for the end of the race; a good thing since it ran until almost midight! Instead however, we took another shot at cruising. This time we started out at 25th street, in front of Myrtle Square Mall, and headed north. I guess it probably took just about as long as Friday night. Oh well, at least we were having fun, right?

August 26, 2002Grandparents, Huddle House, & 3am

Just as crazy as Saturday, if not worse. It started out by having to pack all our stuff since we had to vacate the camp ground by 11. Mark and Julia had to pack up the RV and get it ready for travel. I never knew how much work went into maintaining one of those. I think I'll stick with hotels. We were slightly late arriving at the mall, but we got there. Jeff & I immediately headed to Wal Mart to pick up a few things for the staffers. We also made a quick stop at Krispie Kreme for some delicious doughnuts.

From the time we got back until the show was over, it was all about scoring. Most of it had been settled Saturday night, but there were a lot of little details to finish up. Trash detail began for Jeff & I, after awards were over. From the beginning of this show seaon, Jeff & I somehow always end up getting this job. And it's not because anyone asks us to. I think it mainly because the taking down of tents, packing up the trailers, etc flows pretty smoothly with the rest of the staff. So, we spent the next hour picking up other people's junk from the parking lot. Oh yay.

After a brief visit to the mall for some Dippin' Dots, we headed out. Destination, Kingstree. My grandparents only live an hour and a half from the Beach, so I couldn't drive all the way down there, and not stop in to see them. Ran into some rain on the way there, but finally made it around 6pm. Had a nice visit; I hadn't seen them in about a year. Got to show Jeff their house, where my dad grew up and on the way out the "rest" of Kingstree and the infamous Huddle House. I say it like that because Kingstree is very small; Bridgewater size. Smaller than Radford, mostly because there's no college there.

So ok, on we go. We got on the road shortly before 9, stopped in Lake City for some Taco Bell and more Sonic. Hey, have to get it while we can! Like Jeff said Monday, I'm not sure how we made it home that night. We rolled into Richmond at 3:30am and immediately fell into bed.

So now I'm all caught up on my work and ready to go home! Hopefully Jeff & Eric can get the Cat 5 run tonight, before the drywall goes up.

August 28, 2002All Fired Up

After work last Wednesday (August 22), I met up with Maggie, Katie & Lauren at All Fired Up in Carytown for a little pottery painting. I could probably spend all day in there. We didn't have too much time to come up with designs and get them painted, so mine aren't as cool as I would have liked. But hey, it was my first time. :) Here are some pics: before, during and after. Thanks to Lauren for the before & during shots.
