April 2, 2002Shopping & veggie burgers

Yay me! I finally got to go shopping yesterday! I am in dire need of summer clothes and just haven't had a chance to go get some. But I talked Jeff into coming with me to be my walking clothes rack. :) Just kidding. Ok, maybe not. Well, that's not the real reason I wanted him to come. Sure, that's what he ended up doing...but anywayz!

I thanked him by buying him dinner at Burger King. (Only his favorite fast food place!) And not only did he get dinner at Burger King, paid for by yours truely, but we actually went INSIDE and ate! Amazing! I decided to be nice and at least try their new veggie burger. My opinion? It was just a veggie burger. Nothing special. I could have bought some from the store, put 'em on the grill, and they would have tasted the same. But that's ok. I like soy burgers better anyhow. :)

But it was the experience of eating inside Burger King, with a Playland, I might add. :) We were the ONLY people in there and it still took forever to get our food. I'd hate to see it at lunch or dinner time! (We were there at 8PM)

So anywayz, that was my night. I spent the rest of it washing clothes and watching tv. Sounds like much more fun than I'm going to have tonight. Since Jeff has a meeting and I have some time to make up since I can't get out of bed in the morning, I'm going to have to stay late at work tonight. Yuck! And it's such a beautiful day! Maybe tomorrow evening we can pull out the inline skates and see how long we can go before collapsing in a heap of exhaustion. :)

Don't you guys love entries that just kind of ramble on?

April 5, 2002A birthday and dancing hampsters

Happy Birthday to Paul, halfway to 50 today. You're getting old buddy! (joking) :) Jeff & I will be heading up to NoVA this evening to help celebrate. Hopefully we won't all be too tired!

I dropped my car back off at the shop this morning. Since I got it back I've been having problems with the transmission slipping out of gear when I stop. Hopefully they're right in thinking it's only an adjustment that has to be made. But I guess I'll find out later today. I just want it fixed, and not have to be afraid of pulling out into traffic.

*Update-they're claiming it was low on transmission fluid; that somebody messed up with they filled it. Hopefully that's all it is and I won't have anymore problems. We'll see*

My random link of the day will be Hampster Dance. Now I know what you all are thinking, this is old news, we've all seen it before. But it's bigger, and better, than ever! After explaining that my AIM buddy icon looked like the little hampsters from hampsterdance, I decided to check it out again. Who can resist that adorable music? dee-dee-dee-de-de-de-de-dee, dee-de-de-de-dee!!

But what did I find instead? Hampster Dance 2! With interactive, graduation, christmas, & birthday dances! You can even buy their album! So exciting! The one downfall is that the original dance is no where to be found. :( But no matter, I'm sure it's around somewhere. So check it out, and dance!

April 9, 2002A little about llamas

My random topic of the day came to me when searching fellow bloggers sites, and coming up with no search results. So I figured, why not? At least now, if someone does a search on my site, they'll get some results.

Oh, I guess you might want to know what I'll be talking about?

The word of the day is, llama.

*aaa-ggg-hhhh* (come on, we've all see PeeWee's Playhouse, right?)

So anywayz. Back to the llamas. I actually had a good start on an entry about llamas when my machine locked up and I lost it all. So I won't try to recreate the perfection that was. :)

Llamas are moving up in the world, you know? After David Spade's performance in The Emperor's New Grove, llamas are quite a hit now, wouldn't you say?

Here in America, people most often breed llamas for their wool or just for companionship. From what I've read, they make great pets. And, no, they don't spit ALL the time! :)

For everyone's surfing pleasure, here are some "llama links"

Charlie the Llama

The Llama Q & A Page

Rangemore Llama Farm

Llam Lifestyle Marketing Association & Llama Information

International Llama Registry

Tennessee Llama Community

Northern Lights Llamas

The Ultimate Llama Connection

So, I guess that's all I'll saw about llamas for now. :)

*I am not promoting the breeding or owning, as a pet, of llamas. This is for entertainment purposes only. I have not thoroughly scoured each of the above listed sites, so I do not know exactly what each is promoting. I chose them based on their outward appearance to the world (meaning, their front page and "info" page). If anyone finds disturbing information on any of these sites, please contact me and I will promptly remove the link. Thanks!*

What Video Game Character Are You? I am Mario.I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

What Video Game Character Are You?

Random thoughts:

I just love blue ink, the kind from a rubber stamp pad. Especially when it gets all over my hands. It's just great.

My car seems to be running fine now. Feels like it did before the 'incident'.

I'm trying to grow some flowers, wish me luck cause I've killed all the ones I've tried before.

6 months until we can potentially move in, yay!!

Paper clips are a wonderful invention. Who would have thought?? Now staples on the other hand...I got one stuck on my sock yesterday; it felt weird, especially before I knew what it was.

I overslept today. Now I've lost all that overtime I had worked earlier in the week. Figures.

I have to get back to work now. Poo.

April 15, 2002Spontaneous group gathering

Well my weekend didn't turn out exactly as planned. Visiting with Jeff's family on Saturday and watching the race on Sunday were the only things we were going to do this weekend. Jennifer's going to be moving to Richmond on Thursday! Yay! I hope she likes it here, so she'll stay.

Brian ended up coming down Saturday evening, so after Jeff's family left, the guys came over and played quake. Until 4AM!! Needless to say, we were going to be sleeping in on Sunday!

But Eric called a little before 12, so we forced ourselves up and dressed to meet him & Kelly for lunch. Since they'd never seen our pile of dirt we showed it off yet again. Is there anyone out there still who hasn't seen it?? [Excluding my family of course, sorry guys :( ] As we were on the way back in to our apartment, we ran into Jenny and Eddy who invited us to dinner later.

In the meantime, Lauren, Mike & Brian came over and the guys played Quake again. Soon they had to leave, so the rest of us met up at Gino's for dinner.

Jeff and I ended up staying up way too late so we could watch the race. It was at Martinsville, a short track, but it was a pretty good race and made us want to see one "live" again. So if anybody wants to donate to the "Send Jeff & Olivia to the Race" Fund please email me. :)

Work has been pretty uneventful today. Not a whole lot going on. I keep thinking of all these things I want to do at home, and I know by the time I get there I will forget, they won't seem so important, or I won't have the energy. So sad.

We get to pay our next installment on the downpayment today. I'm so excited about the house; I just wish we could move in sooner! Too bad we didn't think about buying before we did, then we could have bought one that would be ready sooner. Then we wouldn't have to pay the extra for a month to month lease in the apartment. Oh well. I guess we had enough to deal with right after Christmas.

This also gives us more time to save up for the downpayment to get ready to move. Now I need an unlimited shopping spree at IKEA, and I'll be all set!

April 17, 200245 minute lunches

State regulations say we have to take 45 minutes for lunch.

This really sucks. I never go anywhere to eat, and everyone in my department takes their break at different times, so we never eat together. And there's not enough time to run errands. So here I sit, bored. Maybe I'll bring a book in or something. It was so much better as a temp because I took 15 minutes, or somedays didn't even take one. Then I could work 9-5. Oh well, guess I'll suffer through.

Hmm..don't really have too much else to say.

April 19, 2002Jennifer comes to Richmond

We went over to see Jennifer and her new place last night. Looks like she's going to have a lot of fun unpacking for the next few days! With the stuff she brought with her, the stuff we brought from our place that she'd left last weekend, and the stuff Mr & Mrs P are bringing Saturday, I'd say she'll have plenty to do! Her job doesn't start until Monday, so leaves a little time to get acquainted with the area. Don't worry Jennifer, we won't make you figure it all out yourself!

Today's not a good day for exploring anyway, since it's raining pretty hard. Too bad I don't have a recorder to capture the thunder. Maybe the power will go out and we'll have to go home!

Man, I hope it doesn't do this all weekend. I love rain, but taking trips in it isn't the most fun.

The thunder last night was unbelievable! When we were unloading the car at Jennifer's, it was soooo loud! Seemed like it was right above us. Can thunder be classified as anywhere besides up?

On a totally different note, I wonder who invented balloons. And when. And I don't want any stories about balls out of inflated pig bladders; I did read Little House on the Prairie/Laura Ingalls Wilder books as a kid. :)

I'm talking about the latex/rubber/mylar kind. Who would have ever imagined?

This topic really isn't that random, I was taking down the balloon in my office that was from my birthday (long time, I know). and just marveling over it's simplicity and amusing qualities. (There was a face drawn on it and when you squeeze one end, it bulges out at the other and makes a funny looking face...ok nevermind. At least I amuse myself.)

So..ok, now that I've just lost all my readers, have a great weekend!! :)

April 22, 2002Ahh..the college life

What an exhausting weekend.

We had a great time in Radford, but it felt so weird to be back. Jeff & I hadn't been since graduation last spring. It's weird to go somewhere you spent 4 years of your life in, but not feel like you really belong anymore.

After Jeff & I checked into the hotel (the new Comfort Inn, just opened on Tuesday, by the interstate), we headed straight to BT's, a favorite hangout. By then it was about 11pm, so it was just starting to get crowded. Luckily, they have a non smoking section upstairs where we always sit. (And of course that's never crowded, who wants to be that far away from the bar!)

Whim staffers, new & old, were already there, so after some introductions we got to relax a little. They finally kicked us out at 2, so we all parted ways. Jeff, Brian & I headed over to 706 to meet up with the current staff, and to check out the apartment (this is where the guys lived our last year). Well, there aren't really even words to describe the place. The Christmas lights, decorations (liberated from various Radford stores), and bottles on the cabinets put there by Jeff, Brian, Mike & Roger, were all still there. Amazing. The only thing I can say is that there's no way I would live there! (sorry guys) :)

Jeff & I finally got back to the hotel and crashed around 3:30. Up again at 10 to meet everyone in Heth at 11. Since there were some different people there we had introductions again, then headed to Macados for lunch. Trying to eat with 25-30 people is pretty crazy. But our waiter was awesome, we had our food quicker than I ever expected. The plan for Saturday was just to hang out and get to know each other, so back over to Heth we went, to one of the meeting rooms. Most of us shared what we're doing now and how Whim influenced that.

Quad Fest was also going on outside, so before we all got organized in Heth, Lauren & I walked around campus. I was sad to realize that there wasn't anyone there I knew. But I guess after 2 years, you can't expect to know that many people. Well, unless you're Lauren, and know everyone! :)

After the show and tell session, we headed back to BT's. And there we stayed until about 12:30. (This is 6 hours I'm talking about) Pretty much everyone else left after the "after dinner drink," so once again, Jeff, Brian & I walked over to 706 to say goodbye to everyone.

Jeff & I got back to the hotel about 3, walked up the flight of stairs to our floor, stuck the key card in the door, and got a red light. Great. Locked out. By that time, we were so tired that it was just amusing. Back downstairs to the front desk. They rekeyed our cards and we were able to get in. Remember, this hotel only opened on Tuesday. The pool wasn't open, and there were only 2 tv channels, so we ended up getting a much lower rate. Fine by me! Now if they would have left us check out a little later!

Since we had to be out by 11, we stopped by the Best Western to see Mike & Lauren and make breakfast plans. Well, breakfast turned into lunch since they had to see some people first. But it gave Jeff & I a chance to go to the bookstore, walk around campus, and to drive around town taking pictures. Not much has changed. Besides the big gaudy sign at the new entrance to campus, and Adams street finally being partially closed off, there's nothing new. Oh yeh, and they tore down the Brown building. It was always a little scary to go into, so it's probably for the best!

So here I sit at work, Monday morning, so tired I can barely think straight, much less type correctly, trying to get enough energy to get some work done. But it was a good weekend. I met a lot of people, ate a lot of good food, and did a lot of reminiscing. Sometimes I can hardly believe that it's been (almost)2 years since we graduated, and 6 since we finished high school. Where does the time go?

April 26, 2002Friday Five

I decided to join the hundreds of bloggers out there who do this stuff every week. :)

smattering.org: the friday five

1. What are your hobbies? Computers, scrapbooking (although I'm way behind), spending time with friends, reading, cross stitch (when I'm in the mood)

2. Do you collect anything? I use to collect everything, so now I have these uncompleted projects: thimbles, keychains, postcards, pens. I even had (cough cough) a rock collection. Don't have anything unusual or cool though.

3. Is there a hobby you're interested in, but just don't have the time/money to do? I would love to learn more about dynamic webpages, asp and databases. I'd like to get back into horsebacking riding and/or music. Photography, interior design, art-ceramics/pottery, is that enough yet?

4. Have you ever turned a hobby into a moneymaking opportunity? Nope. Never felt like anything I did was worthy of being sold. Although, when I was little, my cousin and I would draw pictures, little tiny ones, and sell them to our family. But that was a one time event, so it doesn't really count.

5. Besides web-related stuff (burbs, rings, etc.), what clubs do you belong to? Nada. Ever since I got out of college, I haven't done anything "extracurricular" :)

April 28, 2002Over already?

How is it that 2 days over the weekend always seem to go by so much faster than 2 days during the week? Where did it all go?

Can't say I did too terribly much this weekend. Slept in yesterday while Jeff & Mike went out test driving cars. When he got back, and Jennifer came over, the plan was to drive around a little and show her a little of Richmond. We ended up on Midlothian Turnpike (since that's closer to her place). After a little shopping and eating, we figured it was time to call it a night.

Today, besides some light cleaning, I haven't done anything but watch the race and sleep. What is it about watching tv that makes me so sleepy? Oh well, it's not like I had anything else to do :)

Guess I'll try to find something halfway entertaining to do for a few more hours. Talk to you all tomorrow!
