October 6, 2004I need a vacation

I am so tired. Tired because I can't sleep at night thinking of all the things that need doing, will need doing, or what to do to make sure things go right.

And I'm not doing things because I'm tired of doing things, of thinking about them.

Don't worry, I'm not crazy, just stressed.

So many unexpected things have popped up in the last few days: Gizmo needed updates on his shots, so I made an appointment that unfortunately took longer than usual because of another emergency at the vet's. So that took more time from work, which meant I stayed late.

Afterwards I went to Lenscrafters to get new glasses. I tried to kill the hour wait by window shopping until my feet hurt. And then they weren't even ready. And now, I need to go back because I'm having trouble focusing; they must not have gotten the lenses right or something. So that's more time from work.

Normally taking extra time off of work wouldn't be a problem, but I'm trying to make sure things are cleaned up and straight before we leave next week. So I stay late to work on stuff, meaning I get home late, which makes me tired and not want to do the things that need doing.

And then of course we have other things to juggle: work obligations, friend obligations, house stuff, etc.

10 days....we have 10 days...that's just crazy!

Please, please let it not rain!!

Hang in there, girl! The only advice I can give is not to waste time worrying about the weather because it's the only thing that you definitely CAN'T control (and as long as you have a backup plan Murphy's Law and God will take care of it). Some other things that you thought you could control will turn out that you can't control them but the key is this: As long as everyone ELSE thinks things are going smoothly, you're Golden!

p.s. And don't forget you're supposed to enjoy it once the day actually gets here. It only happens once! (to most people)

I can definitely appreciate that feeling of coming home late from work and having nothing but more work to do!

Even if you can keep a basic-level schedule, you're ahead of the game. Sure, the deadline is tight, but don't be upset with yourself if you want time to loaf or just unwind- you deserve it, and can probably fit it in there somewhere!

Class often keeps me up until the wee hours of the morning, only to have to repeat the whole work/class/no play thing again the next day. There's nothing pleasant about it.

Actually, the one pleasant part is keeping your eyes on the prize! For me, my "prize" will be much much later in life. For you though? Say it with me... MAUI. MAUI. MAUI.

Now, doesn't that just sooth your nerves? ;)

Hang in there!
