January 29, 2004A near hit

So I'm leaving home this morning, driving down Hunton Park Blvd, coming up on the entrance to the apartments. I see this big Yukon coming out of the apartment complex. And he's still coming, and coming. Knowing I probably wouldn't be able to stop either, I swerved left and he came sliding out into the intersection. That was almost scary.

Asshat Yukon drivers..... Did ya give him the middle-finger salute? I've been saluting asshats all week so far. Bad drivers + bad road conditions = AngryChris.

Funny you say that. As I was leaving the house at 8:45am or so this morning, there was an accident at the intersection of Hunton Park Boulevard and the apartment complex. It looks like an Audi (or BMW or something) and an F-150 collided. The front of the car was pretty smashed in while the truck's bed was only slightly damaged. Henrico's finest were on the scene. Sounds like HPB was a scary place to be driving on this morning.

Yeh, it must be really slick coming out of the apartments. I guess people don't realize that.

Can they plow on cobblestone?

"almost scary?" That SOUNDS definitely scary. Yeesh.

Nope, they can't do much for cobblestone. You can skim it and salt it, but any more than that and you're risking serious damage to the stones.

On Wednesday, my first day venturing out in my crummy 2-wheel-drive Impala, I was doing fine on our ice-covered streets until I came to the entrance and had to stop. I hit the brakes and nothing happened but a buzzing sound. A huge snow plow was heading my way on the main road. Thank God he turned into the neighborhood, and no one else was coming, because I couldn't stop and he would have plowed my ass into oblivion. DEFINITELY scary.

Tuesday night I was coming home on Fairgrounds Rd. There was a car off in the woods. So the traffic on that side of the road was stopped while the police were there. This guy who was in the car I guess was trying to cross the road. So he is standing on the side waiting to cross when this BIG Linclon Navigator comes flying up, slams on the brakes and skids right to the guy. He goes driving head first into the woods to get out of the way. The Navigator driver never saw him and kept talking on her phone.
