June 26, 2003Pineapple Expressing it

Pineapple Express

After all the go, go, go in the past few days we decided to take it easy and just do some sightseeing. First stop (woo woo [like a train] ), Dole Plantation. One of the few places I had NOT been before, I learned more about pineapple than I really needed to know. :) The Pineapple Express train took us through the planting/harvesting process. Did you know it takes at least 15 months for the first fruit to grow?

Next stop, Waimea Falls..oops nope, can't do that, Falls are closed due to a change in management and the fact that all safety equipment had been taken out. Huh? Yeh, that's what we thought. No matter, back to Aoki's for more shave ice! Yum!

Oh, I think I forgot to mention the Mililani/H1/WalMart fiasco. Before getting to Dole we planned to stop at the WalMart in Mililani (one of two on the island) to pick up some goodies. Somehow we missed the exit from H1 to get to Mililani. (H1 being name of the interstate) Looking back on it, I think I was looking for the wrong exit..it had just been too long. So anyways, we drove a little out of our way before finally getting back on track and getting to WalMart.

Pali Lookout

So ok, back down H2 to H3 to find the Pali lookout. Pali being a road that runs through the mountains on the east side of the island. Another missed exit found us heading the wrong way yet again. I'm so grateful the Pollards were very patient with me and my funky directions. Ooo, I know what will help, a yearly trip to Hawaii! Yeh!! Ok, now we've reached the lookout. Windy, windy, windy. We got some funny videos of mine and Jennifer's hair blowing around. It's such a cool view from there...mountains to ocean.

From there we headed back to Honolulu to visit the King Kamehameha Statue and the Iolani Palace, neither of which I had actually been to. Dinner was at Hard Rock (nachos..yum!) and some walking through Waikiki topped off the evening.
