June 24, 2003Volcanos and Faggios

The big event for the day was the hike up Diamond Head, the, as Jeff puts it, defunct volcano crater. Because we couldn't get our lazy asses out of bed we ended up hiking in the hottest part of the day. But it really wasn't too bad; with the low humidity, it doesn't seem as hot. This would make it the third time I had make this trek as well, but the view is still spectacular.

Diamond Head

I do suggest taking water and a flashlight. There's an enclosed spiral staircase near the top that for some reason does not have electricity. Very dangerous I would think. But no matter, we made it up and back down.

After the exhausting hike we enjoyed a yummy lunch of pb&j sandwiches and Maui chips. Made like Grandma Utz, but much, much greasier. With everyone pretty tired we headed for home.

Weeee!

Jeff and I went across the street about 4:30pm to rent mopeds. I know everyone thinks it's a pretty dorky thing to do, but like Jeff said, there are lots and lots of people who do it. It's funny, when we lived there we could always spot tourists because they were on the mopeds, and now I was one of them!

Even though I was a little unsure and unsteady at first I picked it up pretty quick. Don't think I'm ready for a motorcycle or anything, but we sure had fun! After a while we parked and went walking around Waikiki. Because of the late hour we had rented them we ended up getting to keep them overnight. Getting in the parking deck was a real joy...6 levels up, 6 levels down, round and round....bleck. After dinner we headed back out to make the most of our time, but ended up getting lost in downtown Honolulu. At least at 1am there isn't much traffic!
