June 14, 2003The longest flight
Our 7am flight meant we needed to be at the airport by 5am for check-in and security stuff. Even with Jeff's full cavity search (just kidding) we were through by 5:15am. Doh. Oh well. We sat around enjoying some Starbucks until the 6:30 boarding began. Five hours later we landed in San Francisco for a four hour layover. We thoroughly explored the airport and ate some delicious sandwiches on sourdough bread before it was time to board. Due to some last minute flight changes we ended up begin seated in separate rows. Since I've made this flight so often, it felt pretty normal to me, but I know it made for a very long trip for the others. With a slight delay getting off the ground I was asleep for take off (once again). My row-mates on the plane were a very interesting couple that talked a lot. But it was fun. We finally arrived at Lihue, Kauai about 4:30pm local time.
The rest of the day was spent grocery shopping at Safeway and getting acquainted with our surroundings, including the chickens that run wild. Chickens are the squirrels of Kauai. They are everywhere! The 6 hour time change combined with the long flights and the repeating hours of the days, made us all exhausted by early evening. Jeff and I tried out the hot tub then hit the sack by 9pm.
