June 24, 2002Monday Mission 6/24/02

PromoGuy's Monday Mission

1. Do you wear glasses/contact lenses? If so would you consider going through Lasik surgery? (Or if you already have, please tell us about it)

I do wear glasses. At this point I can't imagine having Lasik surgery. I won't even let them put drops in my eyes for the glaucoma test, so there's no way I could stare at a laser for 15-30 seconds. Yikes!

2. Did you ever have to wear braces? How are your teeth? (any cavities, any pulled teeth, root canals, etc.)

I had braces back in middle school; for 3 years I think. My teeth could use some work now. I need my wisdom teeth pulled, then maybe they would straighten back out again.

3. What (if any) recent movies have moved you emotionally? Which one and how so?

I haven't seen anything recently.

4. I visited my dear Mema in the managed care facility Sunday and while she is doing well, I was sad for her. Living out your final days/years someplace like that seems so lonely to me. Would you rather live the remainder of your golden years in a rest home, or pass away before it came to that?

I think I'd rather pass on before I needed that type of care. Especially if I still had my mind, and it was my body failing. I think it would just drive me nuts.

5. Sometimes, but not nearly often enough, I will just stop and marvel at the amazing planet on which we live. The eco-system, life and death, nature, the perfect balance that keeps us alive, the universe, it can all be mind-boggling if you let your mind get carried away. What natural creation or phenomenon just flat-out leaves you with a sense of wonder?

When you stop and think about everything, how it all works together to create a balance, it's just amazing.

6. Have you ever been in a fist fight or a situation where you had to get physically violent with someone else? How did that come about? Any consequences?

No, and don't plan on it.

7. Many times I look back in hindsight and think of how I should have handled a situation. Are there any recent happenings that you wish you would have handled differently? What happened and what do you wish you'd done?

I can't think of anything specific that's major.

BONUS: How far away can you go, and still be dancing with me?

There's no dancing :)

Find me in: Questions to Ponder

Comments

1. Nope. 20/20

2. Oh hell yea. 5.5 years of braces. Teeth are okay. I'm quite positive I have at least 3 cavities.

3. Most movies move me. I'm easily "moved." Big tear-jerkers are: Life is Beautiful and Dead Poet Society. That cool "artsy" feeling can be found by watching The Red Violin or Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

4. I look forward to settling down somewhere, and I wouldn't burden someone else with my care. When it comes time that I can't take care of myself (or am forgetful, etc) I look forward to going to a place where they do that for me. You're only "alone" in those places if you want to be. Everyone is in the same situation, and if you dont' go out to make friends, that's your loss. It's like a college dorm all over again. You can be stuck up and miserable, or go meet people and expand your horizons. You're never too old to make friends.

5. Just about everything natural baffles and impresses the hell out of me. Reforestation, the human body, the animal kingdom, women in general.

6. Two occasions have found me close to blows, but I never lost my cool beyond some yelling. And both were not between me and someone else. They both involved me defending someone else and fighting on their behalf. Nothing is so complicated that it can't be resolved without fighting. It's a shame that others can't put themselves in other people's shoes sometimes. This would be a safer world to live in, that's for damned sure.

7. All of my regrets (and as much as I hate having them, of course I have them) do teach me something valuable, but no- as much as they may hurt me or someone else, they teach me a valuable lesson for the future. Since I'm not dead and no one I know is dead because of my decisions, I see it as only a good thing that I've safely learned what not to do, and look forward to correcting my wrongs. It's the only way to live.

BONUS: Not on your life buddy. You're still a guy.

1. I have 20/20 vision to the best of my knowledge. But if I did need glasses/lenses/etc. I would choose glasses. I don't like anything pointy or lasery near my face, yo.

2. I had braces for about 2 1/2 years right as I entered high school. Not fun at all. I puked on my orthodontist when he was trying to make an impression of my teefees (you know that nasty clay crap they shoved in your mouth!) Blehhh.....

3. Tommy Boy and Big Daddy definitely move me emotionally.

4. Not sure about this one. I'm just livin' it one year at a time these days. 28's right around the corner.....

5. Space - the final frontier. If the big bang really happened, and the universe has been constantly expanding at the speed of light since that moment, can anyone really imagine just how large the universe really is?! 180,000(+/-) miles/second for billions of years?! Holy poodoo!

6. I've been in several fist fights - never initiated by myself though. You win some and you lose some, but you live...... you live to fight another day.......

7. No major regrets. Only one minor one I can think of - choosing the wrong major oh so many moons ago.

8. I don't actually understand this question, but if it deals with dancing, I ain't doin' it. Dancing...... ehhh....

1. I have worn contacts since 7th grade....last year I went to these "extended wear" contacts that you can wear to bed, I totally love them and think it's the next step to getting Lasik surgery, I'm thinking I'll do it when I'm 30, that way my eyes will probably be at a prescription stopping-point and the procedure will be more advance. I'm all about it, baby!

2.I agree w/ Topper that braces in high school is not fun. In middle school, you're cool. In high, you're a big dork. Of course these days you can get that plastic mouth guard thingy instead--damn late technology!

3. When I had to sit on the plane in Atlanta for 3 hours I saw that movie w/ Ashley Judd and the dude from Frequency--it got me to thinking about how traumatic it is to realize you've been deceived by someone you love.

4.I'd rather go early than have me and my family suffer to the point they forget who I really was.

5.I am in my car all day every day by myself driving around southern VA. I have a lot of time to think about that type of stuff.

6.Besides with my sister when I was younger? Nah. I'm a big puss, really.

7.Every day I'm reminded of idiotic shit I do, I try not to dwell on it.
