August 2, 2002No Friday FiveWell, I started to do the Friday Five, but realized I didn't know the answers to any of the questions. But I'll still post them so you guys can answer :) 1. What is your lineage? Where are your ancestors from? 2. Of those countries, which would you most like to visit? 3. Which would you least like to visit? Why? 4. Do you do anything during the year to celebrate or recognize your heritage? 5. Who were the first ancestors to move to your present country (parents, grandparents, etc)?

1. What is your lineage? Where are your ancestors from? Uhhh... hmmm.... 1/4 German, 1/4 Latvian, 1/4 Polish and 1/4 English. 2. Of those countries, which would you most like to visit? England, but only by process of elimination. 3. Which would you least like to visit? Why? Poland. What the hell do they do in Poland anyway? 4. Do you do anything during the year to celebrate or recognize your heritage? I tell Polish jokes to myself so I can laugh and be offended at the same time. 5. Who were the first ancestors to move to your present country (parents, grandparents, etc)? I'm not certain, but I would have to guess that my great-grandparents were the first peoples over here on this side of the Atlantic. Posted by: Top on August 2, 2002 1:47 PM1. What is your lineage? Where are your ancestors from? Okay, I had to wait because I didn't know the answer to thisquestion. So I asked my grandparents when we went to lunch. It sparked what turned out to be a really interesting conversation. My ancestors are from England, France, Germany, and the old Slovakian countries. 2. Of those countries, which would you most like to visit? None, really, but I could get by just fine in France if I had to. 3. Which would you least like to visit? Why? Slovakian countries are always battling each other. There's no vacation when you're dodging bullets. 4. Do you do anything during the year to celebrate or recognize your heritage? Nope. Not at all. My mom didn't even know her own heritage, so we sure as hell didn't know anything either. :) 5. Who were the first ancestors to move to your present country (parents, grandparents, etc)? Dad's side: My great grandfather was the first to come to the US from Germany. His son, (my grandfather) married a Slovakian woman (my grandmother) who's lineage is all screwy because she was orphaned at age 2. I have no idea when her family came over. Mom's side: My great grandfather was the first to come to the US from England. His son, (my grandfater) married a woman of French decent. Her family had been in the south for several hundreds of years. Posted by: PeeR on August 5, 2002 11:39 AMPost a comment
