April 10, 2003Random memories?Ever have those moments when a certain song, smell or other sensory input suddenly reminds you of a long forgotten memory? A few weeks ago I was eating fresh strawberries and just the smell reminded me of summer and my (maternal) grandparents. I have no idea why, I can't recall any specific event that included strawberries. If anything, it should be cheez-its and ginger snaps, but no, it was the strawberries. And just now I turned on the radio to only to hear Cher with "If I Could Turn Back Time." I know I've probably heard the song dozens of times in the last few years, but this time conjured up images of the youth center in Myrtle Beach. I used to get those big sour candies, bleeps, and play foosball. And I distinctly hear that song playing there. What makes you have random memories and what are they of?

If I could turn back taahhhhhhhhhhhuuuummmmm...... Posted by: Just Jack on April 10, 2003 4:06 PMI get those all the time! love that. just about any 80's song reminds me either of a day growing up where I heard it, or more likely something about my brother Dan, who had every song ever played on tape. He catalogged like a beast and he'd play back his favorites up in his room. He was the only one allowed to have a radio at the time, so we hung out with him the most. :) I can't hear the Cranberries without thinking about Radford, ROC TV and Whim. I can't hear "No one is to blame" without thinking of the pool I used to swim in over in Sterling. I've got a billion of those! :) Posted by: B on April 10, 2003 5:46 PMIt's so funny you mention that because a song came on the 80's station the other day, it's from Pretty Woman, i think it's called "King of Wishful Thinking" Anyway, I didn't think of anything specific, but I definitely was taken back in time.... Posted by: Jack on April 11, 2003 10:24 AMKing of Wishful thinking reminds me of Monica Roesch, my 6th grade music teacher. She was always sneaking modern music in through the school censors to make music class fun. Posted by: Brian on April 11, 2003 10:54 AM"King of Wishful Thinking" reminds me of listening to Casey Kasem's Top 40 Countdown early Sunday mornings, while I rode around on my old paper route.
