June 19, 2003Kayaking Kauai

Our last official day on Kauai. Mom and Dad P and Jennifer booked themselves on a movie tour. Since so many movies have scenes filmed here you can now take tours of the locations. It sounds like they had a pretty good time.

Jeff and I had tried to go on an ATV tour, but they were all booked up so we settled with kayaking instead. Aloha Canoes and Kayaks was the company recommended to us. Locally owned and operated, we would get a brief history lesson as we paddled down the river.

It was a little scary at first being out in the water, but eventually I forgot about it and enjoyed myself. We paddled for over an hour I think before stopping for lunch. A short hike into the woods found us at a small waterfall. We ate then had the opportunity to go swimming/rope swinging into a pond. But neither Jeff or I were brave enough to jump into that water. As we waited for the motorboat to pick us up (so we didn't have to paddle upwind) some of us took turns on a rope swing they had set up over the river. Supposedly it's the same location where Indiana Jones did his famous rope swing into (over?) the water, but I don't know about that. A very wet boat ride back and we were finished.

By the time we got back the rest of the Pollards were lounging in the pool so we joined them. Dinner at Eggberts finished off the evening. Now we're packing for the trip tomorrow to Maui.

Oh man, this sounds so neat! You guys packed a lot of stuff into a few days. That would wear anyone out! Sounds like you have a lot going on but aren't letting it stress you out or anything. That is the perfect kind of vacation. Live it up! :)

When you got your initial kayak training, did they have you submerge upside-down in the water?

I love how clear the skies look in those photos up there. I can't wait to see all the photos. :)

I love being able to read about your trip as you're taking it! I didn't allow Mike or I to bring laptops on our honeymoon b/c we wanted to have an "unplugged" week, but you will definitely have details from your trip later! :)

p.s. I love your hair!

Brian-there was really no training for our kayak trip. They showed us the correct way to paddle, but that was about it.

Lauren-thanks! And yeh, it's been nice to be able to share everything with you guys. It would be too much to tell when we get back anyway :)
